Higher prices for other goods and services (0.6 percent), shelter (0.5 percent), and education and communication (0.3 percent) were offset by lower prices for used cars and trucks (-2.8 percent), apparel (-1.4 percent), and medical care (-0.8 percent). WebElsewhere, food prices rose 0.4%, a touch slower than the 0.5% gain in the prior month. Excluding food and energy, the CPI was up 0.5%, in line with our above-consensus forecast. Within the core CPI, used-vehicle prices fell 2.8% after declining 1.9% in the preceding month, but prices tied to shelter and transportation services accelerated.
